Arundo Donax, Known as Giant Reed, is an Invasive Species Found in Local Creeks and Streams

Unfortunately, Arundo Donax grows incredibly quickly, and consumes vast amounts of water. In doing so, it out-competes our native plants, and creates impenetrable thickets of fire-prone vegetation that do not serve our native animals or birds as a food source, or as habitat.

The Laguna Canyon Foundation has a long and successful history of removing Arundo throughout Aliso Creek, thereby allowing our native riparian plant species to thrive. This restores that monoculture of Arundo back into healthy native habitat for our local wildlife.
