2022 City Summer Service Scorecard!

2022 Summer Services Recap

Fire Department

  • Responded to 993 calls for service between June 21 and September 6.
  • Completed the second month of the ambulance transportation services and received outstanding feedback from the community.
  • OES Fire Engine with 3 firefighters has been assigned to the "Mountain Fire" in Northern California.

Police Department

  • Received 11,293 calls for service between June 1 and August 31.
  • Held 3rd annual Teen Leadership Academy; 18 teens successfully graduated from this intensive program.
  • Hired seven new traffic control aides to assist with managing traffic congestion in the Downtown area.

Public Works

  • Completed 400,000 boardings on the City’s transit services between June 24 and Labor Day, a 20% increase from Summer 2021.
  • Summer Breeze weekend Trolley had more than 15,000 boardings, a 75% increase over last year taking 4,000 vehicles off LCR.
  • Picked up 354 tons of trash60 tons of seaweed, and received 403 calls for service.
  • Compiled over 60,000 mobile parking transactions using the Laguna Beach Parking app, a 37% increase from Summer 2021.
  • Over 2,710 participants in swim lessons, beach/ocean camps, volleyball, lego, surf, water polo, splash ball, skim, tennis, pickleball, multi-sport, and soccer.

Marine Safety

  • Performed 4,423 ocean rescues, responded to 3,636 medical calls for service, and made 208,717 preventative contacts with the public.
  • Rescue watercraft operators made 49 ocean rescues1,002 preventative contacts, and 242 ecological enforcements.
  • Implemented the Junior Lifeguard program and almost 500 children ages 8 to 14 enjoyed the program that teaches ocean safety, rescue techniques, beach activities, physical fitness, and Marine Safety operations.

Cultural Arts

  • Celebrated the Festival of the Arts 90th Anniversary, which featured award-winning musician Lee Rocker.
  • Held seven "Music in the Park" concerts at Bluebird Park.
  • Installed the temporary mural installation at the Promenade on Forest "There Goes My Hero" by Ryan Callisto, which honored Taylor Hawkins.

Administrative Services

  • Issued 10,000 parking permits as part of the 2022-24 Shopper's and School District Permits program
  • Reviewed over 900 employee applications for Citywide job postings.
  • Onboarded 69 new City employees

Water Quality

  • Replaced a 35-year-old generator at the Lift Station Downtown near City Hall to improve reliability, reduced air emissions, and make for quieter operations.
