Laguna Beach Police Bolster Motor Unit in Response to Community Demands

Laguna Beach, CA — In direct response to community demands for enhanced traffic safety, the Laguna Beach Police Department's motor unit is operating at full strength for the first time in over a decade. With four motorcycle officers ready for the bustling summer season, this significant milestone marks a renewed commitment to addressing resident concerns.

The Police Department's proactive strategy focuses on education and enforcement to create safer roadways and reduce traffic-related collisions. Motor officers play a crucial role in these efforts, responsible for over 60% of citations issued and 80% of traffic investigations.

"We are working on plans to address community concerns regarding loud exhaust, E-bike safety, and speeders," stated Motor Officer Corporal Spratt.

Laguna Beach Police Chief Jeff Calvert expressed immense pride in the fully staffed motor unit. "Having four motor officers before summer is a gamechanger for us. This unit serves the community with passion and unwavering dedication to ensuring traffic safety," Calvert remarked. "The increase in motor officers directly responds to what our residents have been asking for—more presence and stricter enforcement on our streets."

Traffic-related issues consistently rank among the top concerns for residents, making this enhancement a critical aspect of the Police Department’s duties. "We have a great partnership with our community members and listen to their concerns," Chief Calvert added. "Our goal is to be as responsive as possible, and this fully staffed unit is a testament to our commitment."

Over the past 18 months, the department has worked diligently to staff, train, and deploy the four motor officers. This summer, the Police Department will focus on quality-of-life traffic issues through a multifaceted approach of public education and stricter enforcement.

The reinforced motor unit stands ready to make Laguna Beach's streets safer, ensuring that residents and visitors alike can enjoy a more peaceful and orderly environment.
