Fatal Traffic Collision

LAGUNA BEACH, CA – On Friday, March 10, 2023, at 6:24 p.m., Laguna Beach Police personnel responded to South Coast Highway and Mountain Road in reference to a collision involving a pedestrian and a motor vehicle.  

Laguna Beach Police and Fire personnel arrived at the accident location as Laguna Beach Marine Safety officers were already at the location and providing life-saving measures on a pedestrian lying in the roadway. Laguna Beach Fire personnel continued life-saving efforts, and the pedestrian was ultimately declared deceased at the scene.

A preliminary investigation revealed that an adult female pedestrian was seen crossing the roadway on South Coast Highway near Mountain Road. The adult female pedestrian was struck by a sedan while she was attempting to cross the southbound lanes of South Coast Highway. Witnesses say the female was not in the crosswalk when she was struck by the vehicle. The deceased female has not been identified, and drugs and alcohol do not appear to factor in the collision. The involved motorist remained at the location of the crash and is cooperating with the investigation.

The LBPD Traffic Bureau is currently at the scene, and the cause of the collision is still under investigation.
