The City of Laguna Beach welcomes individuals, families, non-profit organizations, and businesses the opportunity to clean-up the city beaches. To participate, please read and complete the required application for a free Beach Clean-Up Permit before participating in the clean-up. Permit applications must be received at least ten business days prior to the requested beach clean-up date for consideration and processing. You will also need to submit a waiver

Beach Clean-Up Permit Procedures and Policies

Businesses, Non-Profit Organizations, and groups with ten or more volunteers are permitted to bring one shade covering with a business/organization logo to the beach clean-up. Shade coverings cannot be larger than 12 feet wide or 10 feet tall. One folding table under eight feet long by four feet wide is permitted. Shirts can be distributed to the volunteers with a business/organization logo. The City of Laguna Beach will provide temporary debris bins during the beach clean-up. The City will provide two temporary parking passes to the organizers. Temporary parking passes are only valid on the day of the event in metered spaces. Event dates are approved by staff on a first-come, first-served basis. The City of Laguna Beach reserves the right to cancel a beach clean-up at any time, for any reason, including surf and weather conditions. 

The Permit Process

Beach Clean Up for Families or Individuals - with less than ten volunteers

Step One – Complete required application and send it to beachcleanup@lagunabeachcity.net
Step Two –
Upon receiving approved application, complete a beach clean-up a waiver and send it to beachcleanup@lagunabeachcity.net or the address at the top of the page. Participants must complete waivers before the clean-up.
Step Three –
Staff will contact you to confirm receipt of the waiver.
Step Four -
Read safety information (below) before the clean-up.
Step Five –
Clean up the beach! Use #beachcleanuplaguna for any photos posted on social media.

 Beach Clean Up for Businesses, Non-Profit Organizations, and groups - with ten or more volunteers

Step One - Send an email to beachcleanup@lagunabeachcity.net or call the Marine Safety business line at (949) 494-6571 to schedule the clean-up.
Step Two – Staff will contact the organizer of the event to confirm the requested date.
Step Three – All participants must complete a beach clean-up waiver and send it to beachcleanup@lagunabeachcity.net or the address at the top of the page. Participants must complete waivers before the clean-up.

Safety Information

  • ALWAYS wear gloves – disposable if available - and dispose of or wash them immediately after your clean-up. 
  • Avoid touching your face.
  • Do not pick up sharp objects.
  • Do not pick up anything too heavy or anything that you will not be able to fit into your home debris bin.
  • If you clean up near a waterway, be mindful of the conditions, and be careful near the water’s edge.
  • Keep a safe distance from all wildlife.
  • Do not pick up or disturb natural objects, such as leaves, nests, or eggs.
  • Avoid over-exertion, sunburn, heat exhaustion, and dehydration.
