The Traffic Control Aide position performs a variety of traffic control duties and efficiently and safely directs motor vehicles and pedestrian traffic within designated areas. This position also assists the public by providing general traffic control related information and/or directions.  This position is supervised by sworn and civilian supervisors within the Police Department.

Incumbents must be available to work a varied shift schedule that will include weekends, evenings, and holidays. The position is also subject to being on-call for traffic related incidents, accidents, natural disasters, and other emergency needs.

The following duties are normal for this position.  These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.  Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Directs vehicular and pedestrian traffic by providing manual direction and/or operating automated traffic control signals to facilitate the flow of traffic
  • Sets-up and removes traffic control devices, including cones, signs, barricades, road flares, message boards and other related equipment
  • Provides information and assists the public with a variety of requests and inquiries
  • Follows applicable safety rules and regulations
  • Performs other duties as assigned
