Patrol

Uniformed Patrol Officers are first responders, and as such are the City's first line of defense against the criminal element. Using a data-driven approach to crime and traffic safety, or Intelligence Led Policing, Patrol personnel are directed to locations and at times where crime is likely to occur. By analyzing crime data and identifying emerging crime and traffic safety trends, officers are better positioned to deter crime, apprehend criminals and promote public safety.

Reserve Officers

Reserve Officers assist regular officers in patrolling specific areas of the city. Their primary duties are to function as the second officer in a patrol unit. Upon completing a field-training program, Reserve Officers perform other duties on an as needed basis. These duties include; the investigation of crimes, traffic collisions, incidents, and report writing.

Bike Team

Bicycle Patrol is an alternate form of policing for law enforcement officials that utilizes basic bike riding skills in conjunction with specialized tactics that are specific to police operations.

The benefits of bike patrol are:

  • Officers maintain their physical fitness while performing their duties.
  • Officers are more visible to and approachable by the campus community.
  • Bikes can go where cars cannot.
  • Bikes are environmentally friendly and cost little to maintain.

Members of our Bicycle Patrol Team have gone through extensive training.  Residents and visitors to our city can expect to see them whenever the weather permits and at community events or during the busy Summer months.

 Community Outreach Officer

The Laguna Beach Police Department currently has two Community Outreach Officers. These officers advise management and elected officials on city ordinances and participate on numerous committees to advise on various quality of life issues.  Our Community Outreach Officers are an integral part of our partnership with the Friendship Shelter and the Alternative Sleeping Location (ASL) in Laguna Beach.  The Community Outreach Officers work with local, county and private organizations has helped facilitate a smooth transition for the only year-round, emergency drop-in shelter in Orange County.
